Capsule Geology

The Handel NE area is underlain by a sequence of folded and faulted upper Triassic andesitic volcanic and clastic sedimentary rock units of the Stuhini Group. The sequences of clastic layered rocks consist of volcanic wackes, andesitic flows, and argillite interbeds.

Sulphide-bearing pods occur in a quartz vein traced discontinuously for 10 metres (trends 060 degrees); eroded to west and pinching to east towards overburden. A large pod (0.3 by 1.0 metre) with about 20 per cent arsenopyrite and a trace of galena and sphalerite assayed 5.52 grams per tonne gold, 14.74 grams per tonne silver, 0.06 per cent copper, 0.38 per cent zinc and 0.039 per cent lead (Assessment Report 21219, Table 11 Sample 90T045R-081).

Exploration in 1990 and 1991 by Soloman Resources Ltd. (Soloman) entailed geological mapping and the collection of 336 soil, 2 silt, and 494 rock grab samples over the southern Ridge grid, as well as, the Handel, Chopin I and II claims (Assessment Report 21219). Prospecting and sampling yielded a number of new showings. Andesitic rocks occur in the area.
